GREAT WAR HISTORY SITES

THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS has all the WWI issues of STARS AND STRIPES posted. There are sveral ways to access each issue. The PDF format is the best but you will need a current version of Adobe Acrobat to view the paper. If you're not on a broadband connection you might want to use the OCR (Optical character recognition) version but it's very difficult to follow. Figure out what works for you.

Easily one of the finest Great War History sites on the web.
Informative, thorough and well laid out.
¡¡¡¡¡SETS THE STANDARD!!!!!

Both of the above sites are by the Great War Society. TRENCHES ON THE WEB covers numerous topics of interest on WWI subjects. The DOUGHBOY CENTER link takes you to the site directory.

GREAT WAR REENACTMENT GROUPS
A.E.F. UNITS

PERSHING'S DOUGHBOYS, portraying the 106th Infantry, 27th Division, is one of the top recreated WWI units in Europe. They are located in the United Kingdom. Excellent website with lots of information

FOR A FULL LIST OF GREAT WAR REENACTING UNITS VISIT THE GREAT WAR ASSOCIATION WEBSITE

OTHER ALLIED UNITS

Run by my friend Eugene Poplavsky, the Legion Russe enjoys a reputation among Great War reenactors for its authenticity. Check out their website for information on this little know Great War unit.

    CENTRAL POWERS UNITS

FÜSILIER REGIMENT No. 73

If you've been a reeactor for any length of time you know how important it is to have oppontents you can trust to "play" fair and SAFE! If you want to try "the Dark Side" than F.R. No. 73 is the unit I would recommend. They are a small unit but highly motivated and active. If you are looking for a unit that you can grow with, these are the guys.

UNIFORMS-EQUIPMENT-WEAPONS

I have personally dealt with and recommend the following vendors

..............................

Schipperfabrik is your best choice for U.S. uniforms of the highest quality, delivered on time! Schipperfabrik is the ONLY uniform supplier that I will recommend. The other main supplier, AEF Supply, is not dealing fairly with his customers and I have removed his link from this website. Deal with AEF Supply at your own risk. Schipperfabrik also has insignia and is adding a complete line of fieldgear. Contact Paul and Heather with your needs before going elsewhere. He is also the best (only?) source for Small Box respirators. Buy with complete confidence.

..............................

PRAIRIE FLOWER LEATHER COMPANY makes excellent reproduction leather items including helmet liners, period watch bands and scabbards for U.S. M-1917 trench knives. I can personally attest to the quality of the work, its value for the buck and their service. They can also do special orders. Deal with absolute confidence.

RARE MILITARY HISTORIES ON CD-ROM
THE DIGITAL BOOKSHELF has assembled a large collection of rare military histories and digitalized them on CD-ROM. The CD's contain the same text, maps and pictures as the originals. Most A.E.F. Divisions have some material available on CD and many have multiple volumes.
¡¡¡¡¡ Highly recommended!!!!!

Geoff Carefoot at TOMMY'S PACK FILLERS has quality reproductions of many of the small items, including paperwork, to fill out your kit for display or reenacting. The items are all British or Commonwealth but that works out very well for our unit. They are located in England but Geoff has no trouble shipping here and they accept PayPal

WE ARE A PROUD MEMBER OF
THE GREAT WAR ASSOCIATION, THE GREAT WAR WEBRING
& THE SALUTE TO VETERANS WEBRING
GWA Logo Great War Association--Based at the Caesar Krauss Great War Memorial Site in Newville, Pennsylvania, the GWA is the East Coast's umbrella organization for Great War reenacting. The GWA hosts two (possibly going to three) annual combat reenactment weekends each year. The GWA actually owns its own battle site. This 80 plus acre site is complete with trenches, underground bunkers, shell holes and machine gun nests.
The GWA has many different units from all sides. There are numerous Allied units: American, British and French along with their allies such as the Russians and Commonwealth Troops. The Central Powers consist of a number of German units and one Austro-Hungarian unit.
